Pickers Papers Round 17

Back out at Mounties for another big game as we battle it out for top spot! After a disappointing effort last week in what was our worst qtr and a half for the season, the lads will be keen to make amends. In the corresponding game earlier in the season we had a close win but it came at a cost, losing our 4 key big men to long term injuries. Every week it seems someone goes down, thankfully we have some depth.
It was a mint day for footy and a decent crowd was building, unfortunately though the day turned a bit sour. I had to rush back home, then by the time I got to the bench the game had started.
Someone however had forgot to tell the lads as Mundaring towelled us up all over the ground kicking 5 goals zip in the 1st qtr. Unfortunately we also lost Mitch to a knee injury which is hopefully only minor.
The 2nd didn’t start much better as the ball kept coming in and the space in their forward line was hard to cover. Eventually we woke up and started to claw our way back. Kane again was outstanding, roaming the wing and kicking 3 for the day. Vellinga was looking alright until another leg injury ended his day at halftime.
After a little soul searching during the main break, the lads were out to regain some pride. Bomber and Timmy spent most the rest of the game in the guts and had an instant impact, winning clearances as Josh and Jacko were starting to get on top. Tom got everyone pumped up with a long range snap that dribbled through, followed by a few more goals, bringing the margin back. The crowd was getting pretty rowdy by this point, some getting a little bit out of control and down-right nasty. Sheps was having a red hot crack as he got the ball forward plenty of times. All the lads rallied in the last but a goal for goal final term meant the gap was too big to close. They ran out deserved winners in the end as we were caught napping in the 1st half.
Fortunately it wasn’t a total disaster as we showed plenty of resilience for the remainder of the game.

CARN THE HAWKS!
