PICKERS PAPERS
Good afternoon punters and welcome back to another instalment of the Pickers Papers. We are back at the Hawktress this week to take on Swan View after a bye last week. The bye round played host to our Matt Priddis night which went great and we had a fantastic turn out. Thank you to the committee for organising yet another fundraiser to support the club!
Before the bye we took on Gidgie at the Nest. The game was tough and hard at it with Big Al leading the ruck with Mitchy J doing his best Shaun Grigg impression backing him up. The midfield got to work early giving our forwards first use. Kane, Jordy, Johnny and Tommy sliced and diced to give us a 19 point lead going into the first break. Nathan “Loves a Goal” Clarke kicked the opener from the half back flank and continues to beg Tony for a stint down forward. Some wayward kicking led to less of a lead than we wanted.
The second term began and Gidgie brought the heat, kicking 3 goals 3 to bring our lead back to 18. Big Al blew his knee out and all of a sudden, we had no true ruckmen. Enter Ryan “I’m new” Lindley leaping like a gazelle at the throw ins.
The boys came into the change rooms at half time after some questionable decisions by the boys in green with a bit of fire, which led to the third quarter onslaught – enter Timmy “4 goals in 3 minutes” McQuoid. Timmy took control of the third quarter along with Kane and Bomber (who moved up to CHF). Goals to Dom “Play The Horses” Fufaro, Jonno Giles and the Glass Cannon added to the barrage. The back line added insult to injury keeping Gidgie to 1 point for the quarter – led by Hunty, Adrian, Swithers and Clarkey.
The game was broken open after the final break with Timmy adding to his bag and finishing with 7 goals, Bomber kicked a couple and singles to Mitchy “Number 1 ruckman J, Tommy Leeder and Al Dente. A convincing 77-point victory in the end with the bye in sight.
Well done boys, lets fire up and protect the Hawktress today against a lively Swan View.
